Consulting
I occasionally act as a web media consultant. Blogging workshops are, not surprisingly, the most frequently requested sort of engagement and most relevant to large media companies, such as Meredith Corporation and AdvanceNet. (I did workshops for both.)
I also review new media products, and in a previous life, advised on web and business strategy--mostly for startups. Assessments tend to be both editorial and business-oriented. Traffic generation and monetization are usually the most relevant concerns.
I also do some public speaking and panel moderation on media and technology topics as well as subject areas I have some experience covering (i.e., finance). I've spoken at conferences hosted by a wide range of companies; from research companies like Jupiter Media; academic institutions like Harvard Law School, Wharton, (and too many j-schools to count), pure media companies like AlwaysOn; and marketing and PR conferences like the PSFK conference; and once, The State Department, which was unexpectedly one of the most interesting.
I generally only consider consulting if the specific project interests me personally, but the one exception is the blogging workshop, which I always enjoy. I also do pro bono work for nonprofits on a case-by-case basis.
The best way to make an inquiry is to just send me an email. (espiers AT gmail)
